Dogs of war Hats off to the Liberal Democrat party for choosing civil liberties as their platform for election. It really is the defining issue for our time — whether in our complacency we shall let the British and US governments roll back two centuries of liberal democracy.
The Twin Towers attack proves a real threat from terrorists. It was plausibly directed by bin Laden, sheltering in Afghanistan, and NATO was right to invoke Article 5 for the first time ever and invade that country.
But now the dogs of war are loose and crying havoc. There is ample evidence that George II, from the moment the towers fell, sought every opportunity to recruit the attack to his own agenda with Iraq and to an election that would validate his 2000 coup.
Since Afghanistan all proportion has gone. The Bush administration uses the Two Towers as an excuse to launch the most dangerous attack on democracy since World War II. Freedom is on the march! Yes: it is everywhere in retreat.
Americans used to be the staunchest champions of freedom. Two towers down and they’re running scared, willing to concede the most draconian directions of the Department of Fatherland Security. How little it took.
Tony Blair is not the brightest card in the pack. He had us invade Iraq on a false prospectus. The ‘Knave or Fool’ question has been settled by now. He was helping George.
This nuisance must now cease.
