Recognising Carl Rakosi poet and psychotherapist, born 6 November 1903, died 24 June 2004. It was Rakosi who gave us “Friends are not made, but recognised.

Many many happy returns They just keep coming this year. Celebrated Anne Tupker’s 60th on US Independence Day. My sister Jo Taylor turned 50 the next day but couldn’t be reached for comment — husband Neil Graham had whisked her away on a surprise trip to Prague, site of his original proposal, the romantic rascal. We scampered down to Sussex for the surprise party he threw for her on Saturday night; they have promised us a more elaborate do later in the year to celebrate their combined 40th and 50th birthdays. On Sunday we dragged our hangovers to the Optima Systems company picnic at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, and frisbeed with Peter & Michael Guerreri till we dropped — the frisbees, that is.
